The Yunlin Offshore Wind Farm Project receives two Sustainability Action Awards for its Commitment to Green Energy and Ecological Conservation
Yunneng Wind Power Co., Ltd. (Yunneng) has been honored with Taiwan's most prestigious corporate social responsibility awards: the "Asia-Pacific Sustainability Action Award" and the "Taiwan Sustainability Action Award". The company’s four-year "Black-faced Spoonbill Satellite Tracking Program" was instrumental in securing these awards. By tracking over 100 flight paths and identifying 10 new hotspots, Yunneng has created the world’s most comprehensive database of black-faced spoonbill flight data. This groundbreaking research has contributed significantly to understanding the species’ behavior and habitat preferences. Yunneng is dedicated to combining rigorous science with technology to protect biodiversity and the environment. The Yunlin Offshore Wind Farm project exemplifies this commitment, with a bird corridor integrated into the design and the implementation of the Black-faced Spoonbill Satellite Tracking Program to identify crucial habitats.
XS Koo, Chairperson of Yunneng and Head of APAC of Skyborn Renewables, stated, “Achieving green energy while coexisting with nature is our goal. The Black-faced Spoonbill Satellite Tracking Program has been a cornerstone of our efforts, connecting 11 regions across the Asia-Pacific for synchronized bird surveys and conservation initiatives.” Yvonne Huang, Country Manager of Skyborn Renewables Taiwan, added, “Our vision is to create a harmonious future with the natural environment and local communities. By sharing our research findings with the broader scientific community, we aim to expand conservation efforts and promote biodiversity.”
The Black-faced Spoonbill Satellite Tracking Program, a collaboration with National Pingtung University of Science and Technology’s Bird Ecology Research Center, employs advanced GPS technology to track the birds’ movements 24/7. This data has provided invaluable insights into migration patterns, habitat use, and potential threats. Yunneng is committed to full transparency and will release comprehensive findings on black-faced spoonbill behavior, including offshore wind farm interactions, by 2025. The company will continue to create bird-friendly environments in its offshore wind farm and contribute to sustainable energy development and biodiversity conservation.
