Skyborn Renewables (Skyborn), on behalf of Yunlin Offshore Wind Farm, has been honoured with Taiwan's prestigious Global Views ESG Corporate Sustainability Award for its long-term Black-faced Spoonbill (BFS) Satellite Tracking Programme. Recognised in the Environmental Friendliness category, the award builds on the programme's earlier success at the Asia-Pacific Sustainability Action Awards (APSAA) and the Taiwan Sustainability Action Awards (TSAA) in 2024, reaffirming its leadership in advancing science-based offshore wind and biodiversity coexistence.

Building the World's Most Comprehensive BFS Flight Database
The award-winning Black-faced Spoonbill (BFS) Satellite Tracking Program is a pioneering initiative establishing internationally credible scientific evidence for Taiwan's offshore wind industry. Grounded in core offshore wind expertise, including Yunlin OWF's turbine configuration, blade sweep range, and key operational parameters, and developed with Professor Yuan-Hsun Sun's team at National Pingtung University of Science and Technology, the project applies advanced tracking technology to an endangered species. Leveraging four key datasets, namely high-precision positioning, flight altitude, migration pathways, and behavioral patterns, together with a rigorous methodology of data collection, cross-overlay analysis, and field validation, it delivers a robust science-based understanding of wind farm–bird interactions at the source.
Since 2021, the 5-year program has tracked over 70 BFS and mapped 127 migration routes across the Asia-Pacific, creating the world’s most comprehensive database for the species. Findings align with international studies, indicating that migratory birds actively avoid wind turbines, with collision risk extremely low. By overcoming long-standing data gaps, the project transforms scientific data into verifiable evidence, marking a new milestone for the coexistence of offshore wind and biodiversity.
